HUMAN HAIR WIG CARE

Use leave-in conditioner (we recommend GK Leave-In Conditioning Spray) or GK Thermal StyleHer a few times a week to keep wig conditioned and prevent damage. Apply/spray and comb through wig before wearing every few days.

Shampoo approx. every 20-25 wearings (or every 4 weeks if worn every day)

Shampoo Instructions:

  • Brush gently through entire wig with a wide tooth comb, starting at the bottom of the hair and working your way up.

  • Hold front of cap with hand, rinse under faucet wetting entire wig with cool to lukewarm water. Do not let hair float in water or go near the drain.

  • Lather shampoo in hand, then apply to wig approx. 1 inch from the scalp and work your way down- working it though the hair gently like delicate garment (no harsh scrubbing or pulling!)

  • Rinse and shampoo again. Rinse.

  • Apply conditioner through wig approx. 1 inch from cap down. Rinse

  • Gently squeeze excess water out of wig.

  • Lay wig on towel, roll it up and squeeze to absorb excess water.

  • Apply leave-in conditioner and comb through gently with wide tooth comb into desired direction.

  • Apply styling aid if you’d like.

  • Dry and style or let wig sit on stand to air-dry. If using blow dryer, apply thermal protector first.

  • Only use medium heat when styling wig.

Other Care Instructions:

  • When brushing and combing hair, always start at the ends, working up to the root area. Always brush gently! Excessive brushing or force will break the hair!

  • Laying down on furniture may cause the hair to tangle. Using a silk pillowcase helps immensely

  • Always rinse the root area well when washing. Conditioners or shampoos left over at the root area will cause bacterial growth, which will ultimately cause the hair to break off.

  • Always use cool water. Hot or very warm water will damage the hair shaft, causing the hair to tangle or look dry.

  • When removing your wig, place it on a wig stand so hair does not get any unwanted creases in it.

  • Chlorine is not recommended. This will cause hair to tangle and become dry and brittle. Your wig must be washed and conditioned immediately after swimming.

  • When using a sauna, wrap the wig in a cold, wet towel before entering and let it air-dry when done.

  • Remove wig before sleeping.

  • Before exercising, brush hair thoroughly from the ends to the roots. Apply a “leave-in” conditioner and create a few large braids or brush the hair into a ponytail, securing with coated fasteners.

  • Your wig should be deep conditioned every 4 months to repair damage and help restore moisture and protein to the hair. Single-use keratin conditioning kits can be purchased from Hair For You.
